Now that you've got the basics, let's take a deep dive into how it all works. You'll be creating stunning emails in Canva and finishing them and sending them from Flodesk in no time at all!

How to import Canva Email into Flodesk

Flodesk is an exclusive Canva email partner for this new integration and announced their partnership in April, 2026. Let's break down in detail how to import Canva email designs into Flodesk using the new Canva email integration feature. Spoiler alert: it's super easy!

1. Connect your Flodesk account to Canva

You can connect your Flodesk to Canva during the process of sharing your first email design, but personally I like the idea of getting the tech out of the way first. This way, you can get on with the flow of designing your emails and sending out stunning messages.

With this in mind, I recommend you do this first before designing your emails in Canva:

1. Connect Flodesk to Canva to establish your Canva email integration.

2.  Go to HOME > TEMPLATES > CREATE BLANK EMAIL. Or choose the + button from the home page > EMAIL. Choosing a blank email template is enough to access the settings to establish your Canva email integration. Or you can choose a template – either works. 

3.  With an email document open, choose SHARE and open the 3-DOT “MORE” MENU. You'll see Flodesk as one of Canva's exclusive email export partners.

4.  Choose Flodesk and then give Canva permission to connect to Flodesk. Then LOG-IN using the popup window.

5. Once permission is granted, you'll see confirmation that your Flodesk account is now connected to Canva and logged in – and you're ready to design.

2. Create your design in Canva

Canva has dozens of beautiful templates so you can design and then import Canva email into Flodesk.

Start with a Canva Email Template

I am a template creator for Canva, so I'm a little biased. But let me give you some sage advice. The templates in Canva (and in Flodesk for that matter) are so good, that you may never need to start designing from scratch again. Leverage all that designer-quality goodness by using a template and making edits …. without having to design from scratch.

Start with a Canva template and then take these steps:

1.  From the HOME PAGE, choose TEMPLATES, and then EMAIL, and you'll see all of the templates available in Canva's Library. There are dozens of templates for different industries or topics.

 

2.  Choose any template to get started. Find one that you like (and that suits your message). Choose CUSTOMIZE and you can start editing. Remember that you can narrow your search by adding a topic or category to the search bar.

3.  Alternatively you can continue with a blank email design in the Canva Editor. With a blank email open, go to the SIDE PANEL and choose TEMPLATES. Again, you can search for different topics or browse and choose one that suits your brand. For example you could search for Fitness, or Food & Hospitality:

Edit your Canva Email Template

Canva Email templates are generally a mix of a header and footer area, with image blocks, text blocks, sections and buttons in between. They also include links to manage subscriptions as well as a generic contact/address section.

When you edit a Canva template and export it to Flodesk, the entire email will be imported into Flodesk as “one block”. This means that you need to make all the image, text and link edits in Canva.

Here are a few tips for editing your Canva template before exporting it into Flodesk:

1.  If you have a Brand Kit set up in Canva, use it to edit the template to be on brand for your business with logo, fonts, colors and graphics (watch the video above for a full walkthrough). 

2  To edit an image block in Canva, you'll need to double click any image to edit the image in the sub-editor. This opens a sub-editor so you can edit the copy and image using your brand kit assets. 

Once you double click the image block, the sub-editor will open:

Make your edits to the image block including text and graphics and photos. You can use your brand fonts and assets here too! When you're finished, hit SAVE to go back to the main editor:

3. Don't forget to add any links to any sections that need links. You'll need to do this in Canva and not in Flodesk (as you can't edit the actual block in Flodesk).

4. Remove the Address Footer from the bottom of the email as you won't need this if importing your Canva email into Flodesk to finish and publish. Flodesk will add the mandatory address field from your Flodesk account when you export the email into Flodesk.

5. Flodesk will also add unsubscribe or manage preferences links if those variables are in your Canva email design, as above. 

By using templates and your Brand Kit in Canva, you can go from this to this:

One last step before exporting into Flodesk – add your Alt Text to images:

Add Alt Text to your Images

In order to ensure accessibility for viewers with vision impairment or using screen readers, it's important that you add Alt Text your images. Canva makes it easy to do this in a few clicks before you export your Canva email into Flodesk:

1. To add ALT TEXT, click the image you want to edit, and then click the three dots or the MORE button. Choose ALTERNATIVE TEXT and then add your description.

2. Did you know that Canva has a handy tool to make this even easier for you?  Go to FILE > ACCESSIBILITY > CHECK DESIGN ACCESSIBILITY to use Canva's Accessibility Tool. Among other accessibility “checks”, it will flag any Alt Text that you've forgotten to add. You can also mark Images as DECORATIVE if it's not necessary for screen readers.

Not too difficult, hey? Once you are happy with your email design, it's time to export it into Flodesk using the Canva email integration.

3. Import your Canva email design into Flodesk

Exporting to Flodesk is frictionless and happens in one easy click, but please note this important information:

It's important to note that when you import the email template into Flodesk, it imports the Canva HTML essentially as it is. This means that all images will stay as images, text will stay as text, and there's no re-rendering required.

Here's how to import your final Canva email design into Flodesk:

1.  Before you export, do a final check of your copy, links, images, and settings. 

2.  Then go to SHARE > SEE ALL > and choose FLODESK.

3.  Choose an EXISTING EMAIL or NEW EMAIL. Most often you will choose NEW EMAIL.

4. Then it's just One Click:  SHARE TO FLODESK and it exports into Flodesk. It's that easy.

5. Canva will share your design to Flodesk in Seconds.

5. Click “CHECK IT OUT” to view the email in Flodesk.

There's no files to add, no coding to do – it's all done for you. 

Flodesk will open your new email design in the Flodesk editor:

 

Remember: your email comes into Flodesk in one big block. You can't add anything into the email block you made in Canva while in Flodesk. However, like other Flodesk blocks, you can add blocks before or after it (even if you can't edit the block itself in Flodesk). 

You can make a few essential additions and modifications to the overall email design in Flodesk by adding interactive Flodesk elements as well as sending it back to Canva for edits. Let's take a look at what these are and how this works…

4. Add Flodesk Interactive Elements & Make Edits

As soon as the email design is imported into Flodesk, mandatory fields will be added – ie your mandatory contact details will be added at the bottom of the email below the main design/content block:

 

Let's take a look at how you can add additional Flodesk interactive elements and make essential edits in Flodesk and in Canva:

While there are some limitations to what you can edit while in Flodesk, you can of course add interactive elements like videos or polls before or after the main block.

I'm sure this integration between Flodesk and Canva will develop and there'll be more control in future about how blocks or even separate blocks are imported – and edited – in Flodesk.
 

Make Edits in Canva

If you need to make changes to your email created in Canva – it's easy. Just click the email block, make the edit in Canva, and then bring it back into Flodesk – In one click. Here's how it works:

1. Click anywhere on the main email design that you imported from Canva. Then choose EDIT IN CANVA, and it will take you straight back into Canva to make the edits.

2. Make the edits as you did before in Canva.

3. When you're happy with the changes, hit SAVE > SHARE > and then FLODESK. The email design will import straight into Flodesk as it did before.

4.  Once you've finished editing the email, then it's pretty much business as usual in Flodesk to make the final preparations to publish it to your subscribers. 

5. Send or Schedule your email (and wow your subscribers)

Ready to publish? After checking your email, set your sender settings as you normally would in Flodesk. Hit NEXT on your email to:

1. Check your sender settings, add your subject line and preview text.
2. Do a test email and check all the links, images and copy renders well.
3. Then send it out to your community, looking smart!
