Canva Brand System – What is it?
Canva Brand System is the most powerful way to manage your brand at scale, building upon the existing Brand Kit and Brand Protections in Canva.
It includes a number of new features from AI-powered Brand Kits to customizable homepages for organising your brand in one place, through to the ability to create on-brand designs and in-editor brand guidance.
Canva Brand System is Enterprise-ready to help your entire team to scale your content. It helps you keep your brand consistent across teams, departments and even global organisations.
Brand System was announced at Canva's keynote in Sydney in October 2025. I was fortunate to have a front row seat to the announcement as part of Canva's new features – as a Canva Verified Expert:

Before we dive into the Brand System Features, let's do a quick review of the existing Brand Kit and Brand protection features in Canva. We train corporate clients to leverage these features for creating on-brand, high-impact content as a team. I call them the 5 Brand Superpowers in Canva:
The 5 Brand Superpowers in Canva

These 5 Brand Superpowers are all available in Canva Pro, other than Design Approvals (which is only available in Canva Business, existing legacy Canva Teams accounts and Canva Enterprise). Let's jump into what they are and why I love them so much for teams of any size, from 2 to 22 to 222.
For most of these features, Admins and Brand Designers (depending on your team allocations) can set these restrictions in Canva for your entire team:
1. Brand Kit
Brand Kit allows you to organise your assets – like colors, fonts, logos and photos, icons, graphics and more – for your team. Canva's Brand Kit brings your entire brand together in one place, whether you're starting from scratch or adding your existing assets. Brand Kit helps you establish brand consistency for all your collateral, across every touchpoint. You can have up to 5 Brand Kits on Canva Pro, 100 Brand Kits on Canva Business and 1000 Brand Kits on Canva Enterprise.
Having a Brand Kit set up allows you to replace logos or images across existing designs in just a few clicks, and to keep your brand up-to-date as it changes. You can also share Brand Kits with team members via project folders to ensure they always have access to your brand assets for the right Brand Kit for the right project at any time.
2. Brand Templates
Brand Kit allows you to add pre-designed Brand Templates within the Canva editor to apply your brand as you design. Brand Templates help your team to stay on brand with content that they're creating. Once a template is converted to a Brand Template it can be accessed from within the Brand Kit, and when a team member clicks a Brand Template, it makes a new “fresh” version in their account to edit. When used in conjunction with Brand Controls and Template locking, it's never been easier for all team members to create on-brand content.
3. Brand Controls
Brand Controls allows you to enforce brand consistency by restricting access to certain parameters within your team. This could be only allowing the use of brand colors, brand elements, fonts and templates. It could involve requiring design approval in teams (if you have Canva Teams/Business or Canva Enterprise accounts). It can even control which folders your team can access to ensure all team-created content stays on-brand.
4. Template Locking
As an agency providing training to teams of brand designers and non-designers, this is perhaps our favorite feature – the ability to lock down particular elements in a template. Template locking allows you to lock particular elements, logos, colors or text styles as well as overall layout. Admins and Brand Designers can apply locking to templates before publishing. This helps the non-designers edit templates quickly and easily as they only have to change the text or images for example. And it keeps the brand designers happy because the brand is protected.
You can lock design elements fully or position-only (ie allowing non-designer team members to change the image or text only and not the position of elements, colors or layout). It's one of the most powerful brand features in Canva.
5. Design Approvals
Design Approvals are a super helpful feature that allows you to require sign-off on designs from approved team members. These are usually brand designers or admins on your team.
Design Approvals are requested by team members and can be approved with one click (“quick-approve”)( or further changes can be requested by the approver. Team members are notified about any reviews requested, changes required or comments, depending on whether you are a requester or reviewer. It keeps all communication about designs “in” Canva and out of email. Team members can comment and reply on designs and see their notifications in their Canva account through their “Approvals” tab. This ensures brand consistency.
I usually train my clients to use this feature for more important content like reports, presentations or print media vs social content, depending on the team members. Design Approvals can be set at the team-wide level or for specific brand templates only, giving flexibilty to use it how it suits your team.
New Canva Brand System features
This video walks you through the new Brand System in Canva. It works hand-in-hand with the existing brand features.
1. Brand Home
Every brand asset, guideline and template lives beautifully organized in one place. Now you can add visual tiles to customize your Brand Kit. Click any one of the tiles and add a visual representation of your logos, colors, fonts, images, anmore. This allows you to see where to find elements like logos, because now we have a clear header.
We created the Sydney Canva Lovers Group during one of our Canva Community Labs in Sydney. We've used this new feature to add a series of cover images or tiles for this Brand Kit from logos to colors to fonts, through to brand voice, photos, graphics, and even charts:

As part of this new feature you can customize your Brand Kit completely, adding any new category that you need to organize your brand. It could be stickers or print products or even just a custom category for assets from a particular project. Now you have a lot more flexibility as a team:

2. AI Powered Brand Kits
Another new feature in Canva's Brand System is “Quick Brand Setup” using AI Powered Brand Kits. This allows you to start building your Brand Kit, colors, fonts, tone of voice automatically with Canva AI.
To use this feature, all you need to do is add your company's website URL or upload your existing brand guidelines and Canva will pull in as much of this content as it can to get you started. For now, this feature will pull in basic fonts and colors, but it is expected to continue to develop so that images, logos etc can be pulled in as well.

3. Brand Guidelines at your Fingertips
The Next Brand System feature is the ability to add Brand Guidelines inside the Canva Editor so they are pulled into your designs as you create as a team in Canva.
This is perhaps the most useful of the new Canva Brand System features as it helps your entire team stay on brand. Canva now allows you to access Brand Guidelines inside the Canva Editor, allowing your entire team to get on-brand tips and guidance. Watch the demo in this video snippet below:
Simply add a new Brand Kit and then add your Brand Guidelines right within Canva. Canva has a robus template ready for you to enter everything from your brand story mission to logo guidelines and variations, color palettes and combinations, typography, images, and graphics and so much more. It's a complete guideline document for your brand and how to use it.
As you can see from the demo above, we've added brand guidelines for the Sydney Canva Lover's community including content and images about the brand, the logo and how it is to be used including logo variations.
We've also added color (including primary and secondary color combinations and accessibility guidelines). And we've added typography for headings, subheadings, and body content as well as brand voice/how our language and messaging and tone will be used for this brand. You can also add photography guidelines and how to use the brand's graphics, icons, charts and so much more right through to guidance for digital and print.

The best part? The Brand Guidelines template lives right where your team needs it – within the Brand Kit. This means they can access it from any design in Canva. It's digital and woven through Canva's entire brand ecosystem…. no more searching through filing cabines for a dusty old outdated PDF called “Brand Guidelines”. And no more tab switching to look at a digital version of your Brand Guidelines, they're ready to accecss in Canva!
4. Generate on-brand designs
The final new Brand System feature is the ability to use smart AI branding to generate new designs at instantly match your brand's colors, fonts, and voice for consistency. This feature is also developing as the AI develops, but it provides a good starting point for creating on-brand designs and you can edit them from there. Watch a demonstration in the video snippet below:
The cool thing is that they're fully editable and really at this point I think it's just a great place to get started if you need some inspiration, and I'm sure the AI will continue to develop.
While some of these Brand System features are still developing, we're sure you can see how useful they will become in helping your entire team to stay on brand. Canva's Brand features just keep getting better and better!
